[Chemical composition] Since the mineral bornite often contain chalcopyrite, chalcocite microscopic inclusions whose composition varies widely.

[crystal structure] equiaxed crystal system; a 0 =1.093 nm, Z=8; its crystal structure is quite complicated.

[Formation] Single crystals are extremely rare, and are usually in the form of dense blocks or granular irregular aggregates (Fig. L-24).

[Physical properties] Fresh dark section was copper-red color, weathered surface often has a dark violet color mottled POH, hence the name; gray-black streak; metallic luster; opaque. No clerk. Hardness 3. The relative density is 4.9 to 5. Crisp. Conductive.

[genesis and occurrence] The porphyrite can be formed in the secondary sulfide enrichment zone of the CuNi sulphide deposit, the skarn deposit and the copper sulphide deposit.

Bornite susceptible to decomposition in a oxidizing atmosphere to form a table mineral malachite, azurite, cuprite, limonite ore.

[Identification characteristics] The characteristic dark copper red and the non-fresh surface of the blue purple spotted ochre; low hardness.

[Main use] is the main ore mineral of copper.
