By Amy Bunszel, Autodesk Vice President, AutoCAD Products. Earlier today, Autodesk announced that we have reached a settlement in a lawsuit we filed last year against ZWSoft. While the case was ongoing, we couldn’t share details, but now that we’ve resolved it, I wanted to provide more insight into how our continued investment in AutoCAD helped us identify and address this issue. Since its creation, AutoCAD has been the backbone of our most popular products, and we’ve consistently poured resources into improving its performance, connectivity, features, and overall user experience. This commitment ensures that millions of users around the world continue to benefit from a powerful and reliable design tool. AutoCAD has long set the standard in the industry, with many competitors not only mimicking its file format and core functionality but also copying its commands and user interface. To stay ahead, we regularly conduct competitive analyses between AutoCAD and similar tools. During one such evaluation with ZWCAD+, we noticed an alarming level of similarity that led us to take action. While we welcome healthy competition—it drives innovation and keeps us motivated—we believe in protecting our intellectual property. When a competitor engages in direct copying, we will act. We’re happy to have reached a fair resolution with ZWSoft that protects our rights and allows us to continue pushing the boundaries of what AutoCAD can do. Our team is fully focused on delivering even more value to the AutoCAD community. As we work on future releases, we’re committed to enhancing usability while ensuring full compatibility with third-party applications and Trusted DWG files. We’re also working closely with users to make it easier for you to access the features and improvements we introduce with every update. With our new subscription models, we’re exploring ways to deliver incremental updates that are easy to adopt and help users transition smoothly between versions. The AutoCAD team will be at AU in full force, excited to connect with many of you in person and always open to your feedback—whether through forums, social media, or any other channel you prefer.
