Public Company Information: NASDAQ: ADSK  HONOLULU – (BUSINESS WIRE) – In recognition of U.S. military veterans, the National Park Service (NPS) and Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), recently held a press conference to announce the initial findings from the first detailed survey of the USS Arizona and its memorial in 30 years, along with the development of high-resolution 3D models. This project aligns with Autodesk’s mission to empower people to imagine, design, and create a better world. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, the survey aims to enhance both historical preservation and public education. Once completed later this year, it will offer a more in-depth look at this historic site, helping to protect it for future generations while deepening public understanding. During the event on Memorial Day, a 3D-printed model of the USS Arizona was displayed, revealing details that had never been seen before in print. Additionally, highly detailed 3D models of a cooking pot and a Coke bottle, which had remained in the ship's galley for over 70 years, were also showcased. These models captured fine details such as color and the barnacles that have accumulated on the cooking pot. The NPS and Autodesk aim to complete a full 3D model of the entire ship by the end of the year. "This technology brings the legacy of the USS Arizona to life in ways that weren’t possible before," said Paul DePrey, Superintendent of the National Park Service. "As a revered historical site, the USS Arizona holds a special place in American history. Our goal is to share its story with current and future generations. 3D models allow people to see and touch these replicas, making our educational programs even more impactful." Also present at the event was Don Stratton, a 92-year-old survivor of the USS Arizona, one of only nine remaining survivors. At just 19 years old during the attack on Pearl Harbor, he and six others crossed a burning deck using a line to reach the nearby USS Vestal. Stratton suffered severe burns across 70% of his body. When shown the 3D model of the cooking pot for the first time, Stratton remarked, “That’s incredible. I don’t know anyone who survived from the galley that day. It was all about survival then, and after that, returning was nearly impossible. Now, remembering it feels a little easier. I think these 3D artifacts will make a real impact on many people.†Stratton’s son, Randy, added, “These artifacts can’t be replicated. They represent the beginning and end of the war, and they show that there’s still life on the Arizona.†Stratton concluded, “I hope people remember all the shipmates still aboard the Arizona, and those who gave their lives for this country.†Approximately 900 of the 1,777 crew members who died remain inside the USS Arizona, so any work must be done carefully and respectfully. The NPS is leading the effort to create an accurate 3D digital representation of the ship, using technologies like underwater photogrammetry, subsea LiDAR, and laser scanning to minimize disturbance to the site. "The USS Arizona Memorial is a fragile but vital part of our history," said Brian Mathews, Vice President at Autodesk. "Reality Computing connects the physical and digital worlds, and we believe it has great potential to help preserve and share important stories for future generations." Other organizations involved in the project include HDR, Sam Hirota, Inc., Oceanic Imaging Consultants, Inc., 3DatDepth, Shark Marine Technologies, Inc., the U.S. Coast Guard, and the U.S. Navy Mobile Diving Salvage Unit One.
