Autodesk Forma: Our vision for a connected AECO industry
At Autodesk, we've always been committed to helping our customers embrace technological change. From the very beginning, we've supported the evolution of design and construction—starting with AutoCAD in 1982, which helped transition from drafting tables to computers. Then, in 2002, we introduced Revit, bringing modeling-based design and Building Information Modeling (BIM) into the mainstream. A few years ago, we expanded BIM’s value by connecting architects and engineers through a shared Revit model in the cloud via Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), enabling all stakeholders to collaborate more effectively.
But the architecture, engineering, construction, and operations (AECO) industry is evolving at an unprecedented pace. Urbanization is increasing, complex projects are pushing timelines and budgets to their limits, and talent shortages are putting pressure on already stretched teams. These challenges aren't going away—they're just getting more complex.
That's why BIM as we know it must evolve. Too much data gets lost or recreated between the different phases of a project—plan, design, build, and operate. We believe that connected data can help overcome these issues. But first, we need to unlock the full potential of your data: making it easier to move between stakeholders, connect workflows, build intelligent processes, maintain a single source of truth in the cloud, and deliver what customers like Arco are asking for.

You may remember that we first introduced Autodesk’s industry clouds at AU. Today, I want to walk you through what comes next—and importantly, what it means for the software you already know and love, including Revit.
Autodesk Forma will be the industry cloud for AECO. It will reimagine BIM by leveraging next-generation technology to connect data, teams, and workflows, enabling more collaborative and concurrent ways of working. I'm excited to share that our initial Forma offering is almost here. On May 8, we’ll begin a multi-year journey with the launch of the first set of capabilities in Autodesk Forma.
We’re thrilled to take this leap forward, and it’s just the beginning. The first Forma offering will leverage Spacemaker’s powerful AI engine to deliver new conceptual design capabilities, predictive analytics, and automation. Autodesk Forma will empower planning and design teams to digitally deliver projects with outcomes in mind from day one, creating a solid foundation for all subsequent project phases.
With bi-directional data exchange, you’ll be able to work fluidly between Revit and Forma, between initial planning and detailed design, and between the cloud and desktop, improving the performance of your projects while you’re designing. Being able to work on the same cloud model across Revit and Forma will give architects the agility to work iteratively rather than sequentially—a big change for the industry.
We’ll also continue to invest in Revit, as we have with today’s release. The new capabilities in Revit 2024 are critical to getting your work done today, and they set the stage for next month’s launch of Autodesk Forma and its first set of capabilities.
With your data, teams, and processes connected in the cloud, you can make better decisions earlier in projects. You can harness AI, machine learning, and the Internet of Things to speed up processes, reduce errors, and predict and solve problems before they happen.
