Autodesk adds cloud-based Product Data Management to Fusion Lifecycle

At the Accelerate 2016 conference in Boston, Autodesk unveiled a major enhancement to its Fusion Lifecycle platform: cloud-based product data management (PDM). This marks a significant milestone, as it makes Fusion Lifecycle the **first ever** end-to-end cloud-based PLM solution. The new PDM capabilities are fully integrated into the platform and available immediately, offering engineers a powerful tool for managing design data, collaborating on projects, and streamlining workflows from concept to market. Whether you're a global enterprise or a small startup, having a unified software environment is essential. Product developers no longer want to juggle multiple tools and platforms, constantly moving data between systems. Fusion Lifecycle offers a seamless experience by combining CAD, CAM, CAE, and now PDM, all in one cloud-based environment. This integration not only improves efficiency but also enhances collaboration across teams. With Cloud PDM, engineers can manage their work-in-process CAD data and documents with ease. Version control, real-time reviews, and BOM management are all handled automatically, making the entire process intuitive and user-friendly. Teams can now connect directly with manufacturing workflows, ensuring that design data flows smoothly throughout the organization. Brian Hunter, Quality Control Manager at NovaCentrix, shared his excitement about the update: "We've been using Fusion Lifecycle for over a year, and it's already improved our development process. But this new PDM feature is exactly what we've been waiting for. A full PLM solution in the cloud will significantly boost our efficiency." In addition to PDM, Autodesk is expanding its Fusion portfolio with new features aimed at helping manufacturers stay competitive. One of these is **Fusion Connect**, which introduces **Dynamic Predictive Analytics** powered by Nutonian’s AI technology. This allows companies to analyze large volumes of IoT data and predict equipment failures with high accuracy, enabling proactive maintenance and operational improvements. Another upcoming feature is **Fusion Configure**, which will bring enterprise CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) functionality to the platform. This will help manufacturers handle complex, customizable products more efficiently, allowing them to configure, price, and quote products quickly and accurately—something that's becoming increasingly important in today's market. All of these updates are part of Autodesk’s broader strategy to enhance its cloud offerings and provide a more integrated, efficient, and accessible platform for product innovation. With no hardware required and easy access from anywhere, Fusion ensures a low total cost of ownership and greater mobility for engineers. As Lisa Campbell, Vice President of Manufacturing Industry Strategy and Marketing at Autodesk, stated: "Traditionally, product development has involved multiple disconnected tools, leading to slow and costly processes. We’re committed to changing that. Today’s updates bring us closer to a future where designing, making, and using products is faster, smarter, and more connected than ever before."
