John Tulipano shared the following report: The fire was located at the end of a long dead-end street. Firefighters had to walk a long distance from staging areas in near 100-degree heat. Wheaton 3rd Alarm Fire 7-4-12
Here are some photos from the fire at 976 Tara Court in Wheaton today, known as the 3rd Alarm. The fire originated in the rear of the home and spread up the wall and into the attic. The location is on a dead-end street, which made access difficult. The second engine had to travel approximately 1,000 feet to reach the nearest hydrant. All responding units had to walk in from Blanchard with their tools and equipment due to the remote location. The temperature was around 98 degrees when the fire occurred, making conditions extremely challenging for the crews.
