The world's largest LED streetlight renovation project was successfully completed in Los Angeles. The project installed a total of 141,089 new LED street lights. According to Forbes, the city of Los Angeles is expected to save at least $7 million in annual electricity bills and avoid $2.5 million in maintenance costs, thanks to its energy-efficient LED lighting. This effect was announced and many other cities followed suit.
Los Angeles is not the only city to retrofit LED street lighting. For example, many other California cities, regardless of size, have done the same lighting renovation. In March of this year, the city of Las Vegas completed the installation of 42,000 LED street lights. A month later, Austin, Texas announced plans to install 35,000 LED street lights. Moreover, CPSEnergy claimed in December that it would install 20,000 LED street lights in San Antonio.
According to relevant research forecasts, the shipment of LED street lamps will increase from less than 3 million in 2012 to 17 million in 2012.
