Terry Gou Interviewed by Reporter Reveals Plans to Deepen Production of Auto Parts
Mr. Terry Gou, the founder of Foxconn Technology Group, holds multiple leadership positions, including President of Foxconn Technology Group, President of Hon Hai Technology Group, and Chairman of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. In a recent exclusive interview, he shared his deep commitment to public welfare, stating that it has always been a passion and life goal for him. After retiring, he plans to dedicate more time, energy, and resources to social causes, aiming to make a broader impact on society.
Foxconn’s contributions extend beyond direct financial support. According to Gou, the company's core values are built around "love, integration, and trust." He emphasized that Foxconn takes its responsibility toward social welfare seriously, actively participating in charitable activities such as helping the vulnerable, promoting good neighborliness, and fostering community harmony. Last year, the company joined the Shenzhen Care Action initiative and is committed to expanding its involvement through volunteer programs, donations, and neighborhood support projects.
Some have questioned why Foxconn, despite being one of Shenzhen’s top 100 companies in 2004, didn’t rank among the city’s top ten taxpayers. Gou explained that contributions should be viewed from different angles. While direct tax payments are important, Foxconn also generates indirect economic benefits by supporting thousands of suppliers and partners. Additionally, with over 200,000 employees contributing to the local economy through their taxes, the company’s overall impact is significant. This year alone, Foxconn invested several billion yuan in factory construction. As corporate tax incentives phase out, Gou expects the company to become a major taxpayer in the near future.
Looking ahead, Gou revealed that after retirement, public welfare will be his main focus. On his 55th birthday this October, he reflected on his life plan, which includes three stages: working for money, then for ideals, and finally for personal interests. He is currently in the second stage and hopes to transition into the third soon. Post-retirement, he aims to use his experience, skills, and resources to support various public welfare initiatives, which he considers a key part of his future work.
In addition to social responsibility, Foxconn is expanding into new areas. The company has moved from "3C" (computers, communications, and consumer electronics) to "C" (cars), beginning to produce auto parts. However, Gou clarified that Foxconn will not enter the vehicle manufacturing sector directly. Instead, he sees Shenzhen as a crucial location for its automotive component production due to its strong industrial support and favorable business environment.
Gou is also optimistic about the future of electric vehicles, highlighting their environmental benefits and energy efficiency as key advantages that set them apart from traditional models. His vision for the future reflects both technological innovation and a continued dedication to societal well-being.
