Coking crude benzene hydrogenation localization process equipment put into production

Recently, the 80,000 tons/year crude benzene hydrogenation unit and the supporting infrastructure of Shanxi Taihua Group have been successfully commissioned in a single batch. This project is capable of producing 56,400 tons of pure benzene, 12,000 tons of toluene, and 0.3 tons of xylene annually. It represents a major breakthrough in solving long-standing issues such as environmental pollution and poor product quality that were inherent in traditional coking crude benzene refining methods. It is worth noting that the refining of coking crude benzene is a fundamental process in the coal chemical industry. Shanxi Province leads the country in coking crude benzene production, accounting for roughly one-fifth of the national total. However, the conventional acid-washing process has long been problematic, generating large amounts of difficult-to-handle acid tar, which causes severe environmental damage and results in low-quality products and reduced yields. As a result, this outdated technology has been officially banned by the government with a strict deadline for phase-out. In response to these challenges, Taihua Group partnered with Shanghai Baosteel Group and Zhejiang Meiyang Design Institute to implement an advanced crude benzene hydrogenation technology developed independently in China. The successful commissioning of this 80,000-ton/year project marks a significant milestone, demonstrating that domestic coking crude benzene hydrogenation technology has reached full maturity. This development not only enhances environmental protection but also improves efficiency and product quality, setting a new standard for the industry.
