From the Herald-News.com:

The Plainfield Fire Protection District mourns the sudden loss of Michael L. Ludemann, an Emergency Vehicle Technician who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 21, 2016. According to Fire Chief David Riddle, Michael's wife, Mary Kay Ludemann, who also serves as a fire district inspector and spokesperson, shared that Michael had been unwell and was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville, where he passed away later that afternoon.

"The mood here has been very somber," said Riddle. "We weren’t aware of any prior health issues that would have indicated something like this."

As an EVT, Michael was responsible for maintaining and repairing the district’s fleet of emergency vehicles. Beyond his technical skills, he was known for his friendly nature and for building strong relationships with firefighters and staff across multiple agencies. Before joining the Plainfield Fire Protection District, he worked on vehicle repairs for the Lockport Township and Downers Grove fire departments.

Riddle emphasized how much Michael was appreciated by everyone in the department. “He was the go-to person,” he said. “He made a real impact on all of us.”

In honor of Michael’s memory, the fire district plans to hold a solemn walk-through at his wake, allowing fellow firefighters and community members to pay their respects in a meaningful way.
