From the Herald-News.com:

The Plainfield Fire Protection District is mourning the sudden loss of Michael L. Ludemann, an Emergency Vehicle Technician who passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2016. According to Fire Chief David Riddle, Michael’s wife, Mary Kay Ludemann—also a fire district inspector and spokesperson—said he wasn’t feeling well that day and was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville, where he passed away later that afternoon.

"The mood around here has been very somber," Riddle said. "We didn’t have any prior indication that something like this would happen."

Michael was responsible for maintaining and repairing the district's fleet of emergency vehicles. But beyond his technical skills, he was known for his friendly nature and the friendships he built with firefighters from other agencies in the area. Before joining the Plainfield Fire Protection District, he worked as a mechanic for the Lockport Township and Downers Grove fire departments.

"Michael touched everyone he worked with," Riddle said. "He was always the go-to person, and his absence will be deeply felt." In tribute to his memory, the fire district plans to hold a solemn walk-through at his wake, a gesture that reflects the respect and admiration he earned throughout his career.
