Homewood Acres FPD update
Dennis McGuire, Jr. visited the Homewood Acres Fire Department on Tuesday and shared a number of photos along with some updates about the department's progress.
**Notes:** The department is not yet fully operational but is actively working toward that goal. Training is currently underway, and they currently have 15 volunteers on board.
The old Engine 1932, a 1972 Ford-John Bean pumper, has been sold to a man in Grant Park, Illinois, who runs a pawn shop in Flossmoor. The truck will leave tomorrow morning at 5:30 AM and will be used as mobile advertising for his business. It’s worth noting that this engine has a gas-powered motor. This vehicle had a long history, serving first under the East Joliet Fire Department, then Holbrook FPD, and finally Glenwood, Illinois.
The new Engine 1932 is a 1985 Ford-Pierce pumper from Plainfield, Illinois. The department hasn’t yet decided whether it will be painted or left in its original white color.
Another Ford from Country Club Hills was scrapped a few months ago and replaced by a 1986 Mack-Ward 79 pumper from Burbank, Illinois, which was previously assigned to Engine 208.
One of the photos Dennis sent shows all three engines lined up together, creating an interesting and nostalgic scene.
The attached images show the current fleet of the Homewood Acres Fire Protection District as of May 29, 2012. Each photo includes details such as model, pump capacity, and previous departments served. These photos offer a great look into the department's history and ongoing development.
