At approximately noon on Monday, firefighters from Cicero responded to reports of a fire at an apartment building located at 1401 51st Court. As they arrived, thick smoke could be seen billowing from the upper levels of the three-story, wooden structure that housed multiple units. Initially, crews attempted to enter the building but were soon forced to retreat due to intense conditions, transitioning to a defensive strategy shortly thereafter. Around 30 minutes into the incident, the fire department escalated its response by upgrading to a Box Alarm, signaling the need for additional resources.
Multiple handlines were deployed alongside powerful master streams from Cicero’s Truck 2, Stickney’s Truck 1201, and Cicero’s Truck 1. Due to the severity of the situation, a special request was made for the Forest Park tower ladder, which was brought into action after Cicero Truck 1 was taken offline. Every available engine from Cicero, along with support from Stickney and Lyons, joined the effort to extinguish the flames.
