Autodesk’s Industry Collections Are Dropping Their Biggest Updates of the Year
At Autodesk, we deeply listen to our customers and work closely with them to understand their needs. Since our software is delivered through subscriptions, we can quickly roll out new features and improvements as soon as they're ready.
Our product teams have refined the way we deliver updates to better meet our customers' evolving needs. However, it's still common for major product releases to come out within a one- to two-month window. A few weeks ago, the latest version of AutoCAD was launched, featuring a wide range of new and enhanced functionalities, along with improved integrations with Box and Microsoft OneDrive. These integrations, combined with Autodesk’s cloud capabilities, allow subscribers to open and edit DWG files stored in Box or OneDrive directly using AutoCAD on desktop, web, or mobile.
This time of year also marks an important moment for users of our Industry Collections—curated packages that bring together the most powerful Autodesk software for specific industries. Subscribing to a Collection gives you streamlined access to design-to-make workflows tailored to your field. In addition to having the best tools for your trade, subscribers of the AEC and PD&M Collections also gain access to AutoCAD 2020 and its specialized toolsets.

We recently spoke with several product teams across the company to get a glimpse of what's new and exciting in each Collection.
**Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection**
With the release of Revit 2020, our team continues to enhance the multi-disciplinary authoring platform that connects design to construction. This update builds on the improvements from Revit 2019.1 and 2019.2, offering architects better wall and curtain wall creation, a new Path of Travel feature for simulating minimal egress distance, and improved design-to-fabrication detailing for structural engineers. MEP customers will benefit from enhancements in electrical design and mechanical fabrication. We’ve also introduced PDF Underlay support and the Cloud Model Upgrade service, which automates model upgrades in BIM 360 projects with just one click.
Civil 3D 2020 introduces Dynamo for Civil 3D, a powerful design automation tool that helps customers save time by streamlining repetitive tasks. InfraWorks now supports bidirectional GIS data exchange with ArcGIS, improving collaboration between design and GIS teams.

**Product Design and Manufacturing Collection**
The Product Design & Manufacturing Collection isn’t just about Inventor—it’s about enabling customers to design and make anything seamlessly. We’ve integrated Inventor with CAM, Nesting, Nastran, and Tolerance Analysis, creating a unified experience. Data flows smoothly between AutoCAD, Fusion 360, and other tools, ensuring a smooth end-to-end workflow.
Inventor 2020 brings faster large assembly performance, improved frame design, and new ways to create complex geometry. It also includes multimonitor support and productivity enhancements. With AnyCAD technology, users can work with CAD data from anywhere, including AutoCAD drawings, other 3D CAD files, or generative designs from Fusion 360.
Fusion 360 continues to evolve with regular updates, including full access to generative design for commercial subscribers and new subtractive manufacturing constraints like 3- and 5-axis machining. A new lab space in Chicago is dedicated to exploring generative design hands-on, and we’ve added a learning panel and improved collaboration tools for teams.

**Media & Entertainment Collection**
Whether designing a character for a film or a building, 3ds Max 2020 ensures artists have all the tools they need to bring their creative visions to life. The update focuses on quality, stability, and speed, helping artists focus on what matters most.
Maya 2019 offers a more responsive environment, with features like Cached Playback reducing the need for playblasts and Arnold updates making viewport previews closer to final renders.
