Autodesk Boosts Advanced Rendering Capabilities Through Acquisition of Solid Angle

Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), a leading global provider of design and engineering software, has announced the acquisition of Solid Angle, the company behind Arnold, a powerful ray-tracing renderer widely used in film, television, and advertising for high-quality 3D animation and visual effects. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Arnold is a highly efficient global illumination renderer that has gained widespread adoption among over 500 studios and thousands of independent artists worldwide. It has been instrumental in creating stunning visuals for award-winning projects such as "Ex Machina" and "The Martian," as well as the Emmy-winning series *Game of Thrones*. Its versatility and performance have made it a go-to tool for creative professionals across the entertainment industry. Chris Bradshaw, Senior Vice President of Autodesk Media & Entertainment, said, “We’re always on the lookout for technologies that empower artists to be more creative and productive. As 3D content creation becomes more complex, efficient rendering plays a crucial role. Acquiring Solid Angle will help us better support our customers in this demanding part of the workflow. Together, we can enhance rendering capabilities within our products and drive innovation in cloud-based solutions that help studios scale efficiently.” Marcos Fajardo, founder of Solid Angle, added, “Autodesk shares our vision for advancing computational performance and simplifying the rendering process. With their resources, we can accelerate development, expand our marketing and support operations, and better serve our growing user base. By working closely with Autodesk, we aim to solve real-world production challenges and push the boundaries of what’s possible in rendering.” As part of the acquisition, the Solid Angle team will continue to develop Arnold while maintaining close collaboration with its user community. Arnold will remain available as a standalone renderer for Autodesk products and third-party applications like Houdini, Katana, and Cinema 4D on multiple platforms, including Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows. Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya will also continue to support other third-party renderers. Bradshaw emphasized, “We are committed to supporting third-party applications with Arnold. Our goal is to enhance collaboration, creativity, and efficiency across the entire production pipeline, no matter which tools our customers use.” Pricing and licensing for Arnold remain unchanged, with perpetual licenses still available. Customers should continue purchasing Arnold through their usual channels with Solid Angle. **Business Outlook** This transaction is expected to have no impact on Autodesk’s financial guidance issued on February 25, 2016. **Safe Harbor Statement** This press release includes forward-looking statements that involve risks and uncertainties.
