4th Alarm house fire in Wadsworth 4-30-13 (pt 2)

Monday evening turned out to be quite the eventful night for Scott Peterson as he found himself at the scene of the 4th Alarm fire in Newport Township, Wadsworth. Peterson captured some incredible images that will be featured across multiple posts. On Tuesday, April 30, 2013, the Newport Fire Protection District received emergency calls about a fire at 14541 Juniper Court. When the first responders arrived, they were faced with an overwhelming amount of fire both on the roof and inside the house. The Zion ladder truck was quickly set up for water tower operations. At the beginning, there was only one portable tank available, with most of the water being directed towards the Zion truck. The fire escalated rapidly, prompting an immediate elevation from a second alarm upon arrival to a fourth alarm. This decision brought additional engines and tenders from MABAS Division 4 as well as MABAS Division 101 (Kenosha County, Wisconsin). It seemed that Twin Lakes Fire Department was the farthest department to respond. Eventually, three portable tanks were connected in series, resulting in a highly effective continuous flow of water without any interruptions. Given the severe fire conditions that greeted the crews upon arrival, their use of portable tanks and teamwork led to an impressive job in controlling the blaze. In one of the photos, you can clearly see a large section of the second floor collapsing through the C division window above the back deck. More pictures of the fire, along with images of the apparatus and wider scene shots, will follow soon. --- Attached below are some of the photos taken by Scott Peterson: The first image shows the Zion ladder truck equipped with a master stream. Despite the intensity of the fire, the firefighters managed to maintain a steady water supply thanks to the strategic placement of the portable tanks. Another striking photo captures the fire consuming the second floor of the house. The flames were so intense that they caused significant structural damage, yet the coordinated efforts of the firefighting teams ensured that the situation was contained before it could worsen. From the driveway on the D side, the scale of the destruction is evident. The firefighters worked tirelessly to prevent further spread, and their dedication paid off as the fire was eventually brought under control. Looking at the C side, there is visible evidence of floor collapse. The firefighters had to navigate these dangerous conditions while ensuring the safety of everyone involved. The D side view reveals another angle of the extensive damage inflicted by the fire. Despite the challenges, the team continued their efforts to extinguish the blaze completely. At the CD corner, the firefighters were seen working diligently to manage the fire from multiple angles. Their coordination and expertise were crucial in preventing the fire from spreading further. Bristol's crew was actively engaged in managing the C sector, showing remarkable teamwork as they tackled the fire from different directions. Another shot from the AB corner highlights the firefighters' focus and determination. Each team member played a vital role in the overall success of the operation. Lastly, the ladder pipe operations demonstrate the complexity of firefighting efforts. With precise coordination, the firefighters utilized various tools and strategies to combat the fire effectively. These images not only document the severity of the incident but also highlight the bravery and skill of those who risked everything to protect the community.
