In order to reduce the cost of manual meter reading and increase billing accuracy, local utility companies have implemented this smart water meter pilot project. After the project is implemented, users can view real-time water usage data and improve water use efficiency.

The City of Big Bear, California received two grants from the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Ministry of Agriculture to upgrade its water distribution system. The Water Resources Department of Big Bear Lake City said that it will use part of the funding to continue implementing the AMR water meter deployment project launched in 2014, and another part of the funding will be used to replace aging and leaky pipelines.

As early as 2014, Big Bear Lake City launched the AMR water meter deployment project. AMR water meters can help water bureaus increase billing accuracy, reduce water leakage, and receive real-time data on user water usage.
