Autodesk’s Industry Collections Are Dropping Their Biggest Updates of the Year

At Autodesk, we deeply value our customers and work closely with them to understand their evolving needs. With our software delivered through subscriptions, we can quickly roll out new features and updates, ensuring our users always have the latest tools at their fingertips.

Our product teams have refined how we deliver updates to better meet customer demands. However, it's not uncommon for major releases to come out within a short time frame—sometimes just one or two months apart. Recently, the latest version of AutoCAD was launched, packed with new features, improved workflows, and exciting integrations with Box and Microsoft OneDrive. These integrations allow subscribers to open and edit DWG files directly from Box or OneDrive using AutoCAD on desktop, web, or mobile devices, all powered by Autodesk’s cloud capabilities.

This time of year is also significant for those who subscribe to our Industry Collections. These collections bring together the most powerful Autodesk software in easy-to-use packages tailored to specific industries. By subscribing, users gain streamlined access to industry-specific design-to-make workflows. In addition, AEC and PD&M Collection subscribers get AutoCAD 2020 along with its specialized toolsets, enhancing their productivity and efficiency.

No matter your field, our collections are designed to help you embrace the future of making. Through digital automation, they empower you to do more in less time and achieve better results.

We recently had the chance to speak with several product teams across the company to discover what’s new and exciting in each collection.

Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection

“Our team’s mission is to support the AEC industry by providing a cohesive, multi-disciplinary platform that connects design to construction. We’re excited to release Revit 2020, which builds upon the improvements from Revit 2019.1 and 2019.2. Architects will benefit from enhanced wall creation and a new Path of Travel feature to simulate minimal egress distances. Structural engineers will see better design-to-fabrication detailing for concrete and steel, while MEP customers will enjoy improved electrical and mechanical workflows. We’ve also introduced long-awaited enhancements like PDF Underlay and the Cloud Model Upgrade service, which automates upgrading all cloud models in a BIM 360 project with just one click.”— Chris Yanchar, Director of Building Design Products

“With the latest release of Civil 3D 2020, we're especially excited about the introduction of Dynamo for Civil 3D, a powerful design automation tool that helps customers save time by streamlining repetitive tasks. Alongside other new features, this release delivers greater efficiency in design and production workflows.” – Tim Yarris, Civil 3D Product Manager

“In this release of InfraWorks, we've taken another step forward in integrating BIM and GIS. Now, customers can import GIS data from ArcGIS into InfraWorks, make changes, and then save it back to ArcGIS. This makes it easier for design and GIS teams to share project information.” – Nick Zeeben, InfraWorks Product Manager

Product Design and Manufacturing Collection

“The Product Design & Manufacturing Collection isn’t just about Inventor—it’s about empowering customers to design and manufacture anything in a seamless way. We’ve integrated Inventor with CAM, Nesting, Nastran, and Tolerance Analysis, all within the same experience. We’ve also created smooth workflows to ensure data flows easily between AutoCAD, Fusion 360, and other tools. In an ever-changing product development landscape, we’re helping customers create better products with a unified end-to-end workflow.”—Derrek Cooper, Senior Director, Product Design Solutions

“Inventor, the core of the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection, continues to evolve. For 20 years, it has transformed the way our customers make products, and this release may be the strongest yet. Users now enjoy better performance with large assemblies, faster frame design, and new methods for creating complex geometry. The updated interface includes multimonitor support and other productivity enhancements. Plus, with AnyCAD technology, Inventor is more connected than ever, allowing users to work with CAD data from AutoCAD, other 3D CAD systems, or even generative designs from Fusion 360—all seamlessly integrated.” – Jon den Hartog, Director of Product Management

“Fusion 360 is always up to date, with regular updates every few weeks. You can find the latest news on our blog. But here’s a quick summary of some of our most exciting recent updates. Generative design is now available to all commercial subscribers, and we’ve added new subtractive manufacturing constraints, such as 3- and 5-axis machining, to help more people explore this technology. We also launched a new lab space in Chicago dedicated to hands-on exploration of generative design with Fusion 360. Plus, we’ve introduced a new learning panel for better onboarding, improved collaboration tools, and upcoming user experience enhancements, including in the Manufacture workspace.” – Sam Sattel, Senior Marketing Manager, Fusion 360
